Words That Shape Me: 2024 To Be Read List

January 14, 2024

Welcome to the Words That Shape Me series! In this series I’ll be posting my thoughts and what I’ve learned about each book. The books I review will be ones that have had a huge impact on my life and books that I believe can change your life as well. Check out more of the Words That Shape Me series here.

While this post is normally reserved for end of the year, I didn’t get a chance to write it in time. So I hope you don’t mind that I’m sharing my 2024 To Be Read List with you a little late. This year I’m doing it a little differently. Since my last reading list post I have started participating in reading challenges. So I’m first going to share the challenges I’m participating in, along with some of the books I’m reading for them. I even have a surprise for you (hint if you’re a fan of Taylor Swift and reading you’ll love it).

My 2024 Reading Challenges

Reading challenges are a fun way to get out of your reading comfort zone, get through your TBR list, and/or discover new favorite books. In addition to the Alphabet challenge and some book club challenges, I’m also doing these year-long challenges below. One of them I even created myself!

It’s Nice To Have A Friend

This is a challenge that was created by Kat’s Book Nerds and Bridge Four Books. It’s inspired by Taylor Swift and friendship bracelets. Basically you write down 20 books you want to read this year and then assign them to a friendship bracelet. Then you get 13 friends to choose a bracelet. This gives you the 13 books you’ll read for the challenge. Here is what mine ended up being.

12 in 12

I attempted this challenge last year but only completed half of it. This challenge is pretty simple. You just get 12 friends to recommend a book to read and read one pick a month. It’s a great way to step out of your comfort zone because you never know what you’ll get recommended to you. This is how mine turned out.

The Taylor Swift Eras Reading Challenge

This is the challenge that I created this year. The basis of it is that each era has a main challenge and four bonus challenges. So you really only have to read 12 books to complete the challenge, but if you want to take it further the bonus challenges are there. I did 12 because I also included Taylor’s Christmas songs and collaborations. I created a StoryGraph challenge for anyone that wants to join and needs somewhere to track their progress.

More Books I Want To Read This Year

Here are some other books that I’m adding to my 2024 To Be Read List. Some will be new releases and some are books that I haven’t gotten to yet that I’m hoping to get to this year. Are any of these on your TBR list? Let me know in the comments if they are.
