7 Practical Ways To Help You Choose Faith Over Uncertainty

May 6, 2021

I’ve had a lot of uncertainty come my way lately. From being unemployed, having health problems, dealing with a depressive episode that won’t seem to go away and struggling with eating healthy, not knowing when it will finally all click. It’s enough to knock anyone down, but my faith has always held me up. This is why I’m choosing faith over uncertainty.

You may be wondering what it means to choose faith over uncertainty, or even how to, I’ve got you covered with some practical steps you can take if you are ready to fight to get rid of the uncertainty, and choose faith instead.

What Does It Look Like To Choose Faith Over Uncertainty

It’s no doubt that uncertainty can be scary, especially when it comes to big things like your health and career. There is something so powerful in acknowledging that you don’t know what is going to happen, but trusting that whatever does happen, God’s got you. He is with you through the hard times and the best times, but especially during the uncertain times.

When faced with uncertainty it may be hard to feel God’s presence, I know I’ve had moments, but that doesn’t mean He’s not there. His timing is beyond comprehension, but when you look back you’ll often be able to see why His timing is, indeed, perfect. I’m not saying that uncertainty is easy to go through, sometimes it’s the hardest thing to go through. I’ve found that I’ve done the most growing, both spiritually and in other ways, through times of uncertainty. Those lessons I’ve learned, and opportunities I’ve gotten, through those difficult times have been rewarding.

Choosing faith over uncertainty is acknowledging the situation, but knowing that, no matter the outcome, God is with you guiding your steps.

7 Practical Ways To Help You Choose Faith Over Uncertainty

How can you live this out practically? That is what we are tackling in this next section.

Surrounding Yourself With A Community Of Believers

I took this one for granted when I first experienced it. I went to a Christian university for a few years to get my Bachelor’s degree. Part of living on campus meant that we would connect each week in small groups. I did enjoy my time each week talking with the girls on my hall each week, but there were times where I felt like it was just a thing to check off the list. After graduating I really struggled with not having a community to lean on and distract me when I was having a bad day.

The thing that makes being in a community of believers so special is that they are there for you and can point you back to Jesus if you are struggling with uncertainty.

Read Your Bible

I can usually tell when I’m not reading my Bible. My life kind of just spirals. I feel unmotivated, depressed, and empty. I put the connection together a year or so ago. When I was really struggling. I noticed that it had been a while since I read a devotional, participated in a Bible study, or even read my Bible.

I’m not saying that reading your Bible everyday will instantly solve any problem you may have. I do think it helps keep your mindset strong though. In my mind it’s like taking your vitamins each day. Taking your vitamins isn’t going to heal you instantly when you are sick. What it will do is strengthen your immune system so that you get sick less often.

Pray

Praying has helped me gain clarity on next steps in my life. It’s a way for me to straighten out the confusion in my life and connect on a deeper level with God. My prayer life isn’t perfect, and it doesn’t have to be. I know that, no matter how long it has been since I last prayed, I can always come talk to God. He is there with me holding my hand through the hard times, and celebrating with me in the good times. He does the same for you too.

Listen To Church Sermons/Messages

There is something so special about listening to a message that you feel speaks right to your soul. I’ve found that on days where I have felt the most uncertain and stuck, hearing a church sermon is exactly what I need.

You can do this in a variety of ways, and you don’t even need to wait until Sunday. YouTube and Podcasting apps are great for finding church sermons. You can search via a certain church, preacher, or even message topic. One of my new favorite ways to hear snippets of sermons is through TikTok. Some of the churches I follow are Elevation Church and Hillsong Church. I plan to start following more, so if you know of any comment down below. Here is a great message on the topic of uncertainty..

Listen To Worship Music

Music has always had a powerful place in my life. Worship music is no exception to that. There are feelings and messages that can only be conveyed through music for me. Some of my favorite artists are Elevation Worship, for King and Country, Colton Dixon, Lauren Diagle, and so many more. What is your favorite worship song or Christian artist?

Look Back

Sometimes it can be helpful to look at how far you have come. What battles has God helped bring you out of? Going down memory lane for a minute helps you realize that you have made it through all of your bad days so far, you’ll make it past this one as well.

Stay Reminded

It’s easy to forget how far you’ve come, so I also like to figure out ways I can stay reminded. Whether it’s a quote or bible verse as your phone wallpaper, a daily devotional, a song, so many things can help us stay reminded that we will get through this time of uncertainty.

Whether you are facing uncertainty right now, or you will in the future, I hope this post helps you to choose faith over uncertainty. Let me know in the comments if this helps you and you’d like me to write more content like this.
