Healthy Eats: Thanksgiving Edition

If you are like me, you are probably freaking out right now about the upcoming holiday season wondering if you will be able to keep up with all the weight loss progress you’ve made. Or maybe you just don’t want to gain any extra pounds. It seems that the best foods are consumed in the last two months of the year which makes it harder to turn down all the goodness.

Last year during this time I messed up majorly and ended up having to basically start my weight loss journey over. That’s not happening this year though! I’ve made sure of it by planning ahead. The holidays wouldn’t be the holidays without a little indulgence, right? So instead of depriving ourselves, let’s find some swaps to make the holidays a little healthier. Here are some recipes that I have either tried, or am planning on trying.

Deviled Eggs

These are usually a staple with my family for any holiday meal. What’s great about deviled eggs is that they can work for an appetizer or a side, in my opinion.

I went on a hunt to find a healthier alternative for this week and, at first, it seemed like I wouldn’t find one I liked. They all called for greek  yogurt as a substitute. No matter how much I’ve tried greek  yogurt I just don’t like it. I searched a little more and found one that doesn’t need it at all! I’m so excited to try Hungry Hobby’s recipe this year!

Mashed Cauliflower

If you couldn’t tell from my last Healthy Eats post I have grown to love cauliflower. You can’t go wrog with mashed potatoes as a side during a holiday meal. Making mashed Cauiflower intimidated me at first for some reason, I couldn’t tell you why because I’m not even sure. I discovered that it’s actually pretty simple to make which gives my mashed potato loving heart joy. Many thanks to  Wholesome Yum for posting my new favorite side dish to make.

Pumpkin Pie Bars


Thanksgiving dessert isn’t complete without something pumpkin on the table. These pumpkin bars are the perfect way to achieve that. These bars are easy to make and taste delicious. The first time I made it I didn’t have the coconut oil or coconut sugar, so I had to use less-healthier alternatives. The second time I made sure to get the healthier ingredients and I liked it more! So there you have it! I just gave you a Thanksgiving appetizer, side, and dessert. Thus, proving that you can in fact have a healthy Thanksgiving. What are some of your favorite Thanksgiving recipes?
