“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail”
I’ve always loved that quote. I may be biased, because I love planning, but this quote is GOLDEN to having success in reaching whatever goal you are wanting to accomplish. It’s like going on a road trip without looking up the directions. Without your directions you are more than likely not going to reach your destination because you’ll get lost.
Yes, the journey is the best part of a road trip but not knowing where you are can be stressful. It’s a lot better to enjoy the journey by staying on course, while occasionally making pit-stops to enjoy the scenery.
This analogy I have just described is a lot like the process of reaching your goals. In this post I will be talking about weight loss goals, but you can apply this to any goal you have.
What do road trips and weight loss have in common anyway?
Okay back to the analogy. Say you want to lose 10 pounds before the year ends. To be successful at this you need to create a plan. What are your meals going to look like? What type of workouts will you be doing? Who will be your support system? You get the idea. It’s also the holiday season, which makes this goal extra difficult. However, it isn’t impossible. If you plan ahead you will be able to enjoy the holiday parties and dinners without feeling so guilty. This is your pit-stop, but it’s important that you don’t overdo it and stay in that mindset of treat yo’ self for too long. The day after a big celebration it’s time to get back on the plan.
In my personal weight loss journey I need my plans to be a little more detailed because I have over 100 pounds to lose. After researching ideas I came up with my very own weight loss binder. I want to share it with you today in case you are needing some inspiration for your own goal setting journey.
My Weight Loss Binder
My binder is divided into different parts: inspiration, tracking, monthly routine, workouts, healthy eating. I’m going to briefly tell you what is in each category and why I set it up the way I did so here goes…
To start my binder off right I put my reasons for losing weight and weight loss bucket list up front, so I see it every time I ,open my binder. I did this because I think it is important to always be reminded of your why. Whatever goal you want to reach, if you don’t have a good why it will be hard to power through during the setbacks and plateaus.
Tracking your progress is very important. There are many ways to track a fitness journey. Right now I have weight loss and measurements as my trackers. I want to add a non-scale victories to my binder now because I’ve recently been reminded that those are just as important. In this section I also have a reward goals page and monthly challenges.
This is a mini-section that encompasses really all of the other sections, but it’s organized by months. I start with writing down 3-5 goals for the month, then I lay out the weeks in the month. In each week I’ll write down what workouts I do each day and my meal plan for the week. Though this section isn’t as big it is my most referenced one because it has everything I need to know quickly during the week.
Now to my favorite part, the workouts. I start the section like all of them with a little inspiration. Next I have a library of all the different strength exercises that I can pick and choose from when creating my workouts. This is followed by any challenges or programs that I decide to do. Lastly you’ll come to my workout plans. I usually have an upper body, abs, and lower body routine, mixed in with some cardio.
This is the section I need to work on updating the most. It’s straight forward. I have blank weekly meal plan sheets in the beginning, followed by daily ones. Then I have sections for the recipes I’ve tried and want to continue to come back to. I currently have said recipes in screenshot form in my phone. I really need to transfer them over to the binder ASAP so I can reference them easier.
There you have it. This is my secret to staying organized. During times where I start slipping up I just look back at this and I’m ready to get after it again. Do you have a weight loss binder?
