Finding Joy on TikTok
Welcome to the Finding Joy series! Here I will be sharing activities that help me to find joy in my life despite whatever my current situation may be. My hope is that you can also find joy in your life. Whether it be through any of these activities I share, or hobbies and experiences that you love.
TikTok started in 2016, but it has really gotten huge since we have all been bored in the house and in the house bored (if you know you know). Quarantine has been rough, there is no question about that. However, I’ve found a few ways to brighten my spirits, pass time, get inspired, and really whatever I need, by creating a TikTok account.
I was definitely one of the people that downloaded the app to see what all the fuss was about. Fast forward to almost a year, and now I’m writing a post about how much I enjoy the app and how it helps me. I enjoy watching TikTok videos because it has helped turn a bad day into a decent, and sometimes even great, day. From all the nostalgia I find from my fellow 90’s babies, to videos that make me laugh, and everything in between, TikTok has definitely made a less than ideal year feel a little more light.
Today I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite people I have found on TikTok. Check them out and give them a follow, if you have an account, and enjoy their content as well.
Bentellect @bentellect
If you love funny memes you are going to love this account. There are so many times that I have laughed so much in a one minute video than I did all week. His videos always seem to come up on my feed when I need a good laugh. Some of the memes he shares hit deep too. I guess that explains why some of his videos also land on my For You Page. He has other awesome content on his profile as well, as well as a link to his merch.
Swells Crafts & Creation @sweelscraftsncreations
I love all of the products in this shop, especially the Taylor Swift ones. I actually won a giveaway of hers not too long ago and won some Taylor Swift ornaments that she makes. They are super cute and officially one of my favorite things I own now. She also posts behind the scenes of her making the products which is really cool to see. You can find ornaments, stickers, coasters and even apparel in her shop.
If you are a Swiftie and have not followed this account yet, you need to. She is currently drawing a design for every Taylor Swift song, my two favorites so far are the Enchanted one and the Exile one. She also has an Etsy shop where she sells stickers and prints of her drawings. Emily is one of the first few people I found in the #swifttok community. I’ve loved connecting with other people that have the same interests as I do.
Britini D’Angelo @britini_dangelo
Dancing is a popular form of content on this app, which I love. What makes Britini’s content different is the positivity and intentionality that shines through in her videos. Through her dancing she’s been able to raise awareness for things like depression & anxiety, domestic violence, cancer, and more. She has started prayer chains for many people that need prayers for their health. I haven’t done one of her dances yet but I am planning to do one soon. I also really love that she makes her dances accessible to everyone by recording different versions of them as her followers request them.
Justin Muncy @poppunkprince
Are you a Disney-lover who also loves pop-punk music? If you answered yes, you’ll want to go follow the Pop-Punk Prince. Justin takes classic Disney songs like At Last I See The Light and A Whole New World, and gives them a pop-punk twist. He also posts other music-related content. Not only can you find his work on TikTok, but Justin posts full versions on YouTube as well. Both music and Disney always boosts my mood. Justin combines the best of both with his videos. He also has an EP called The Princess and The Punk. I’ve been listening to it on repeat since it came out. They all literally made my top 5 songs of the year on Spotify.
Trevor Norris @trevornorris
Trevor was one of the first accounts I found on TikTok. If you like vibing out to your favorite songs in the car, this will be one of your new favorite accounts. I look forward to his videos to see what song he plays next because, like me, he enjoys different genres of music. He has done videos of songs that are country, rock, pop, hip-hop, etc.. He even created a Spotify playlist. If you like all genres of music, you’ll enjoy this playlist. Music has always been an instant mood booster for me, which is why this is one of my favorite TikTok accounts.
Kristen LCSW CADC @notyouraveragethrpst
I am so glad I found Kristen on TikTok! She gives a lot of helpful advice and techniques to try that help my mental health. Her videos are perfect reminders for me throughout the week in between meetings with my counselor. She also finds a way to take trending TikToks and relate them back to mental health in some way. Check out her merch site for some uplifting apparel. I believe her videos are so important because it’s not only breaking the stigma about mental health, but the videos have the potential to help someone that really needs it. These videos could help that person seek the help they need that they may not have thought about before.
Katie Dunlop @lovesweatfitness
If you’ve been around the blog for a while now, you’ll know that I was already familiar with Love Sweat Fitness before I had a TikTok account. I’m actually going on three years of participating in the free challenges she puts on. She also has a premium app that is basically like having her as your trainer, just on your phone. I wanted to add her to the list because I love her TikTok content. I especially enjoy the tips she gives, as well as the mini-workouts. Any time I see her videos I think of the Team LSF community and how close I’ve gotten with so many people in this community. They have for sure helped me feel less alone in this lonely season I’m going through.
There are some of my favorite TikTok accounts. Definitely go give them a follow if you think you’d enjoy their content. While you’re at it you can follow me as well (shameless plug lol) on my personal or business account. TikTok may just be one of the best things that came out of 2020, besides Taylor Swift dropping not one, but TWO albums. Do you agree or am I exaggerating? Let me know in the comments and let me know who your favorite TikTokers are. I’m always looking for more people to follow.
