Healthy Eats: My Top 4 Places I Go For Recipe Ideas

January 5, 2020

Welcome to Healthy Eats! This series will show you the recipes that I love. This says a lot considering that I don’t like a lot of food. If you have a recipe you want me to try send it my way. I’m always looking for new meals to try..

If you’ve been here a while, you know by now I’m a picky eater. It comes as no surprise, that because of this I have a hard time looking for recipe ideas. I can either know right away I’m not going to like it, or I debate about trying it for a while because I don’t want to waste money on something I’m not going to like. Did I mention I’m not the greatest cook either, so if it’s a complicated recipe I’m not trying it either. So how is it that I’m able to find food to eat?

Let me just say, the internet is a beautiful thing when it comes to finding recipes. There are so many ways to find inspiration, from blogs, Pinterest, and even YouTube. I’m glad I grew up when I did because I don’t know how I would have been able to find new recipes to try. I rarely buy cookbooks because I just know, based on experience with my family’s old cookbooks, out of a 50 count recipe book, I’m lucky if I like 10 of them.

Thankfully I’ve been able to find some food bloggers that I regularly go-to for recipe ideas. Let’s just say that if these bloggers had cookbooks, which some of them do, I have/would buy them. I’ll be sharing with you my top four favorite food bloggers today, as well as my top tips for finding new recipe ideas.

My Top 4 Favorite Food Bloggers

Greatist

This website offers a lot more than recipes, but this was one of the first sites I discovered when looking for recipes. They have so many options! The best part is that most, if not all, of their posts are in list form so you can discover other food bloggers all in one place. If you are looking for a giant list of different recipe options I recommend starting here first.

Love Sweat Fitness

I’ve previously talked about the Love Sweat Fitness challenges that I’ve participated in but Katie, the creator of Love Sweat Fitness, has a lot of amazing recipes on her website, and even more in her e-books. That’s right I actually own a few cookbooks now since I have discovered all the great recipes posted on this website. I love making these Maple Latte Protein Bites

Ambitious Kitchen

I found Ambitious Kitchen a year or two ago and I’ve been obsessed ever since. I’ve gotten a lot of my favorite dessert recipes from this site. I’m also really looking forward to trying this soup! If you are looking for some recipe ideas and want to check out the type of food she creates, this post is a great place to start.

Gimmie Delicious

I’ll admit I haven’t tried too many of the recipes from this website, but that will be changing this year because there are some great options, like this one. One of the ones I have tried has become a staple in my house. That is these cauliflower tots. My family even likes them, and they don’t like much of the healthier food I eat. I used to buy cauliflower tots at the store, but ever since I made this recipe they just don’t taste the same. Which enforces the fact that everything tastes better when it’s homemade, instead of packaged.

Bonus: Skinnytaste:

I haven’t tried any of these recipes, because I just recently found this site, but I plan to start making a few of them. I figured we could try a new food blogger together, so I decided to include Skinnytaste on this list. From looking at this site I love how broken down everything is. There are so many categories and even a section for those on Weight Watchers. I’m looking forward to trying this Chicken Chimichanga recipe, as well as this Crockpot Chicken and Black Bean Taco Salad

Where I Find Recipe Ideas

Now that you know my favorite food bloggers, I thought it was only fair that I tell you my process for finding new recipes and how I found my go-to sites. If you are a picky eater like me or just looking for some new dishes to try, implement the following tips when you are on your next recipe search.

Utilize Instagram Hashtags

How many times have you been scrolling through Instagram and came across a drool-worthy photo of a meal that looks amazing? For me it’s been more times than I can count on my hands. Instead of just stumbling across them, why not look for them on purpose? By using hashtags you can now find thousands, if not millions of recipes all in one place. In fact if you search #healthyrecipes you’ll find over 5 million results. Then you could narrow it down to #healthybreakfastrecipes or #healthydinnerrecipes. You can even do it by diet type like #whole30 or #paleo. The options are endless.

Ask For Recommendations

This one is pretty straight forward. You can either as your friends and family face-to-face for their favorite recipes, or you can ask any online communities you are a part of. The most popular place to do that is through Facebook Groups. Many food bloggers actually have Facebook Groups that you can join for more ideas from like-minded people.

Do A Pinterest Search

Food was one of the top trending topics on Pinterest last year. Therefore, it is no surprise that you can find a plethora of options for healthy recipes. This is actually where I first found the Greatist blog.

Food Bloggers

Speaking of Greatist, as I mentioned above Greatist provides a lot of list posts, which gives you access to a variety of different food bloggers. Try doing a list of top healthy recipe blogs and see how many different bloggers you can find.

Now you know all my go-tos, and how I found them. Are there other food bloggers I should know about? Let me know your favorites down below.

I will have to try those cauliflower tots for my family. I’m happy anytime I get a meal that has nutritional value that all of my family will eat without complaints. I have told my kids that I look forward to being invited over to their house for a meal when they grow up, lol! The maple latte protein bites sound interesting as well. Haute and Healthy Living is one food blogger I refer to at times as is Naturally Natalie Eng.
