Healthy Eats: Surviving Halloween Temptations

October 27, 2019KellyC123

Welcome to Healthy Eats! This series will show you the recipes that I love. This says a lot considering that I don’t like a lot of food. If you have a recipe you want me to try send it my way. I’m always looking for new meals to try.

We are heading into the holiday season. This is my favorite time of year, but it can also be the toughest part of the year. You’ve been working so hard all year to create healthy habits and the end of the year nearing; or maybe this year wasn’t your best and you are making a game plan to do better next year.

This is the time of year the store shelves are filled with candy, cookies, and cakes and pies. They are everywhere you turn. It can be hard not to give in to temptation. If I’m being honest I have definitely slipped up a few times already. However, the holiday season is only just beginning, which means I have time to turn my slip-ups around and you do too.

The key to staying strong during the holidays is to realize that it’s okay to enjoy yourself, but do so in a smart way. Finding ways to make healthier versions of the holiday staples you love is a great way to enjoy yourself without so much of the guilt, as long as you don’t overdo it. I didn’t know there was such a thing as healthy Halloween candy, but here we are. That’s exactly what I’m going to share with you today.

The first holiday to this season is approaching fast, and that is Halloween. For us chocolate lovers out there this holiday can be particularly tough. I’ve been making peanut butter cups for years now, using dark chocolate and organic peanut butter. This year I decided to see what other healthy Halloween candy I could find to make Halloween a little easier.

Today I want to share with you one of my favorites as well as some that I can’t wait to try. Okay enough chatting, let’s get to what you really came to this post to find out. Here are four healthy Halloween candy recipes to get you through the rest of this month, or really any time you are craving some candy.

Peanut Butter Twix Bars from Ambitious Kitchen

I’ve had my eye on trying this recipe for a while now. Twix bars are one of my favorite candy bars. I finally made this last week and it is so good y’all. What I love most about recipes like this is that you know exactly what you are putting into the recipe, if you are choosing the right kinds of ingredients. You can feel good about treating yourself when you know what you are putting into your body. In this recipe, and really any recipe that calls for chocolate, I substitute it for dark chocolate. The key is to get the highest percentage of cacao as you can.

My finished result may not have been as great to look at but they taste amazing and it is something I’ll definitely be making again, hopefully I’ll make them more photo-friendly next time. Check out the original post from Ambitious Kitchen and let me know what you think when you make them.

Other Healthy Halloween Candy Recipes I Will Be Trying Or Have Tried Before

Kit Kat Bars: These are my current weakness when it comes to facing the candy aisle. So I was intrigued when I found this recipe from One Clever Chef. I am excited to try this one!

Snickers Protein Bites: While not technically a candy bar, this is a great option from Love Sweat Fitness if you are wanting to add a little protein to your candy. I’ve made these a few times and they are so good! Check out the recipe and let me know what you think (you have to scroll down a little to get to the Snickers recipe).

Gummy Bears: Don’t like chocolate bars? I still have something to satisfy your candy craving. Check out this recipe from DIY Natural to learn how to make these gummies. I’m interested in trying these. Chocolate is normally my go-to when I want something sweet but I do like to switch it up sometimes.

Which candy recipe will you be trying? Do you have any other ways you stay strong and on track with your health goals this holiday season? Let me know in the comments below.
