Finding Joy in Self Care

February 16, 2020

Welcome to the Finding Joy series! Here I will be sharing activities that help me to find joy in my life despite whatever my current situation may be. My hope is that you can also find joy in your life. Whether it be through any of these activities I share, or hobbies and experiences that you love.

We are over half-way through the Love Myself 2020 challenge! I can’t believe how fast it’s going so far. I hope that the blog posts, YouTube videos, and journal prompts have given you an idea of how important self-care and self-love is. If you haven’t joined the challenge and downloaded the journaling e-book, it’s not too late to join! Just download the e-book and jump right in. There are also some great ideas for self-care and self-love activities in there.

Today I’m sharing how self-care brings me joy. It really just comes down to one word.

REST

I’ve discovered recently that it is so easy to want to do all the things and stay busy. Before you know it you come to the realization that you have been going and going for so long and you forgot how to rest. I’m talking like truly resting, not the few moments at a time that you are social-media scrolling. The rest I’m talking here is distraction-free, feed your soul type rest.

I didn’t realize how long it had been since I’ve done this. This challenge has been eye-opening for that. I’ve since been trying to prioritize rest at some point in my day. I’ve done this through more frequent baths, Netflix nights, reading, and sleeping in. If I continue doing this I know my life will be full. I recommend you add more rest to your life. You will not only decrease the likely-hood of burnout, but you’ll also be able to be fully present in your life. You will be able to show up better for your friends and family and even work.

How To Rest

There is no specific way to rest right. You can take it literally by prioritizing naps and good sleep. Rest can also be resting your mind, or even just being still. Activities like coloring, journaling, meditating, are great examples. Rest looks different for everyone. It’s important to find what works for you and commit to doing that regularly.

Don’t wait until you are burnt out and scatter-brained to start adding rest to your life. Add more joy and self care to your life today by prioritizing rest.
