Music To My Brain: Self Love Playlist
It’s no secret that I love music. There is something so powerful about lyrics, especially when they resonate with something that you have gone through.
I find songs about mental health especially powerful. I think sometimes we forget that celebrities are human too, they have hurts and struggles just like all of us. I have so much respect for artists that release music about mental health. That’s why I created this Music To My Brain series. Check out the last post in the series here.
This month we are talking all about self love and self care. So for today’s Music To My Brain post I’m sharing some great songs about self love that will become your anthems as we continue this month. I made a self love playlist that you can listen to on Spotify. I curated it so that as you go through the playlist in order your confidence will grow until you are feeling great being yourself by the end. I hope it empowers you this month and beyond. Let’s dig in to some of the songs that you’ll find on the official For The Love of Self playlist.
Self Love by Averey Anna
I don’t know about you but this lyric hits me hard. I’m always checking in on everyone and going out of my way to make sure everyone is feeling okay and knows they are valued. Then there are the thoughts I have about myself that are the exact opposite. This song reminds me that I’m not alone and that we all are working on ourselves. We all are learning to be kinder to ourselves.
Love Myself by Andy Grammer
This whole chorus just explains me so well. It’s about actively trying to love yourself, despite what you may be feeling now. The message of this song is why I create series like this one. The more we work on loving ourselves even when we don’t feel it, the more we are going to feel it one day and be grateful that we stuck with it. So sing this chorus loud and proud, because even if you don’t feel it now, you will one day.
How To Be Alone by Rachel Grae
This is such a big breakthrough moment and I’m glad there is a song to represent it. In the past, and sometimes even now, I’ve placed value in having tons of friends. I’ve always felt like I was missing out on something because I didn’t have plans on the weekend or didn’t get to experience certain things growing up.
The past few years as I’m learning to love myself I’ve learned it’s okay not to have a busy social life. I realized I wasted all that time getting caught up in FOMO that I could have used it to lean into getting to know myself and what makes me unique.
Choose Your Fighter by Ava Max
This song is from the Barbie movie, which I highly recommend by the way. Choose Your Fighter is all about owning who you are and being confident in that. I love the lyric “you’re perfect as you are” because it’s a reminder we all need from time to time.
Flowers by Miley Cyrus
While this is a song about moving on after a breakup, it’s got a powerful self love message to it as well. Which is why I had to add it to our self love playlist. Don’t wait on someone to do things for you that you can do for yourself to show yourself some love. You don’t need a significant other to experience the joy of fresh flowers in a pretty vase. You don’t need people to go with you to an event you really want to go to if no one is available.
Buy yourself the flowers, take yourself out dancing. You’ll feel so much freer knowing that nothing is holding you back from doing what you love.
Me Too by Meghan Trainer
The ultimate confidence song is this right here. If you want a song to boost you up or dance around in your room while you’re getting ready, this is it. I love the mindset Meghan has here. It’s the level of confidence I aspire to.
Best Self Lady Bri
I had to end the self love playlist with a song that represents everything this series is about. The message of this song is so clear. By focusing on self care and self love your best self awaits you.
