SMART Goal Setting in 4 Steps

December 21, 2018KellyC123

I’m getting you prepped and ready for 2019. Keep up with the whole series here:

Word of The Year

I touched on this earlier in the week, so I won’t spend too much time on it here. Basically, my goal setting starts by focusing on a single word. This not only keeps me focused, but it also keeps my goals simple. If you need ideas to get you thinking check out this website.

Areas To Work On

Now that you’ve got your word it’s time to focus on the areas you want to grow in. Do you want to focus on your health, education, career, relationships? Pick a few areas that you can relate back to your word. For example, my word this year was DEVOTED. I wanted to be devoted to growing my spiritual life, learning more about finances, and losing weight.

Break Them Down

Okay We’ve got our word and the areas we want to focus on, now it’s time to get to the actual goals. In each area you want to focus on come up with 1-5 goals in that area. For weight loss this year some of my goals were to try 2 new recipes each month and workout at least 5 days a week. Next year I want to participate in a 5k and win a diet bet.

Actions To Take

In our final step in goal setting for 2019 we are further breaking down our goals into actions. What do you need to do monthly, weekly, and even daily to achieve your goals? This is something new I am trying in 2019 and I think it’s going to make all the difference. Continuing with the weight loss theme, if I want to run a 5k next year I first need to find a race, then I need to start training. Each day during my training schedule I need to show up to the gym and get to work. This step will be time-consuming, but if you take it seriously and write it down, I believe you will have
more success with your goals in 2019.

I’d love to know your goals for 2019. Comment below and let me know if you will be trying this method with me. Let’s meet back here again tomorrow! I’ll be sharing my monthly prep routine that I use to set each month up.

[…] Whatever goal you have given up on – it’s time to get back to it. When you look back on your life later, do you want to be wondering, “what if I gave it one more shot?”, or do you want to say, “I’m glad I kept trying to achieve my goal.” You got this, I believe in you! […]
