3 Reasons You Should Have A Morning Routine
A few years ago if you were to ask me what my morning routine was my answer would be something like getting out of bed in just enough time to grab breakfast and head to class. As you can probably predict, that has changed over the years. It took me a while to get on board with having a morning routine, and to be honest I’m still trying to make it a habit.
As I did some research, and tried a few different activities, I finally came up with a good system that works for me. The key is that I need to be more consistent with it. I’ve practiced this routine on and off for about half a year now. In this time I’ve learned a few things about why it’s important to start the morning the right way which drives me to want to be more consistent with it.
You get “me” time
Whether you are a busy parent who never gets a minute alone to yourself, a busy business owner who juggles a million different tasks all day long, or someone who is always on the go; everyone needs some time to themselves. If you find it incredibly difficult to do this throughout the day, or even before the end of the day, why not do it before the day begins? Having a morning routine gives you this time to yourself before the rest of the day begins.
You are more productive
A good morning routine will give you a kickstart to your day. I have personally experienced this. It’s amazing to look at the clock and say, “Wow I’ve gotten so much done already today!” instead of “I can’t believe half the day is over already and I feel like I’ve gotten nothing accomplished.” I’ve noticed on days where I don’t do my routine I am a mess throughout the day and not much gets done. However, when I wake up an hour or so earlier and take that time to wake my mind up, I know that it will be a good, productive day. Do you want to finally check off all those bullet points on your to-do list? Consider starting a morning routine.
You get time to grow your mind
Do you know what is one thing all successful people have in common? They read. My first thought was how do they have the free time to do that? Through my research I discovered that they achieve this by carving out time in the morning for personal development. If you’re not a reader no worries, there are other ways to grow your mind. Some examples are listening to podcasts, reading articles related to your industry, and even taking an online class. There are so many ways to grow your mind! If you are always busy and don’t have the extra time to do personal development than you need a morning routine in order to grow.
My Morning Routine
Okay so now I’ve got you interested in starting a new morning routine, but you have no idea where to start. This article provides helpful ideas to help you build a morning routine that works for you. I also thought I’d share with you what I do.
I start the morning by drinking some lemon water as soon as I wake up. Then I nurture my spirit by reading the Bible and listing out what I was thankful for the previous day. Then it’s time for habit tracking in my bullet journal. I have a monthly habit tracker for working out, self-love, no fast food, and Bible in A Year. I also track my water intake, mood, and sleep on my weekly page each day. Next it’s time for personal development. This varies each day from listening to a podcast, reading a book, or watching a YouTube video. Finally, I try to start working out as soon as I finish my morning routine, but that is what I struggle doing the most.
As I am writing this that is my current routine but I’m open to changing it. I recently got the book Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod. My goal is to finish it by the end of the year so I can finalize my routine for 2019.
Do you have a morning routine currently or are you hoping to start one now? I’d love to know your thoughts and experiences.
