5 Tips To Remember If Self Love Is Hard For You

We’ve been celebrating self love and self care all month long. What happens when you aren’t feeling the self love though? No matter what you try you still are struggling with the idea of loving yourself. First I want to let you know that you aren’t alone. I’ve definitely been there, and still have those days. In the last post of The For The Love Of Self Series I’m sharing a few of my best tips of what to do when you are having a hard time loving yourself.

5 Tips To Remember If Self Love Is Hard For You

Here are five tips that I recommend to anyone that may be struggling with self love, in no particular order.

Surround Yourself With Love and Confidence Messages

Sometimes all it takes is a little reminder of how amazing you are on a tough day. That’s why I like to have positive messages ready for me when I need a boost. 

This can look different for everyone. I like having quotes on my phone that I find on Pinterest. I also keep any comments or messages that friends have made about me that make me feel good. Those are great because you know that it’s actually about you so it’s easier to believe. You can also hang up artwork that features positive messages around your house. What are some other things you can do to keep the positivity around you?

Reach Out To Friends and Family

I like to do this every once in a while when I need a boost in self esteem and can’t find it within myself. You can do something as simple as asking people to describe you in three words, or have a heart-to-heart with someone you trust. Let them know you are struggling and they will be there to lift you up and show you all the reasons why you should love yourself.

Fake It Till You Make It

While this isn’t the most desired way of action, it does work. If you’ve tried multiple things to lean into self love but nothing is calling to you, sometimes faking it until you make it is a good strategy to use. You may not be feeling the love now, but keep showing up for yourself and doing self love activities. One day you’ll start feeling that shift and the love will be there.

Speak To A Professional

It’s a big misconception that you have to have a diagnosed problem to attend counseling/therapy. The reality is that therapy is for everyone. Speaking to a professional can help you get to the root of why you might not be feeling the self love lately.

Prioritize Self Care

I’ve said this a lot, but that is because it is true. One of the best ways to show yourself some love is to take care of yourself. Whether you are treating yourself to a massage, you got out of bed today to brush your teeth, or anything in between, it’s all key for learning to love yourself. Each self care task you do is sending a message to your mind saying that you are important and worth taking care of. Some self care tasks may seem mundane, but as they add up you’ll start feeling the difference.
